Random Observation from the User Info Page. [Jan. 4th, 2005|01:43 am]
Sauce1977

My counter definitely does not seem to work right.

I post things and receive many responses. I do respond quite a bit, but I've had way more responses than the number that is currently listed.

The counter makes me look like a hall of fame comment junkie.

No man!

It really doesn't count my stuff correctly!

Shouldn't it count the responses from my posts in communities?

The thing just doesn't work right.

I believe it doesn't count those, actually. I noticed that one time, too.

I don't know much about the counter, but I wish there was a way to remove it from the userinfo.

It doesn't serve a good purpose, at least to me.

LOL.

Yes it does, it shows that you take an interest in other people's journals by commenting in mass numbers ;)

all the comments you post as replies in your own journal count as comments you've given but not as ones you've received, i believe. i haven't tested this!

I believe you're correct.

I don't believe it counts the correct sum of all the other-user comments that I've received.

I'm still not sure about posts in communities. I believe it's supposed to count them, but I'm not sure.

there is that lj utility which will break down all of your journal's comments into who-commented-how-many-times. i don't know the address of the web version, but i'm sure you can find it in lj_nifty.
that will be your true answer!

It does seem a little odd. But, LJ does a lot of wierd things. For example, I can still post in a community I left over six months ago.

I think there's a way to dig up old posts from deleted journals as well.

Is there any way to override the code in the userinfo so that it does not appear?

i don't think so.
i've never heard of anybody wanting to do that before.

i could be wrong, though.

[random off-topic comment]

I am going to e-mail a few of the pics from when we hung out at the Grove from my GMail account... just so you know and don't go 0_o when you see an unfamiliar e-mail addy that has a large attachment, lol. :)[/randomness]
