Why I Don't Watch Reality TV. [Jun. 1st, 2005|10:45 pm]
Sauce1977

There's a reality TV show called "Beauty and the Geek." It started today.

Brian McFayden: Who was the President of the United States during the Civil War?

Cheryl: . . .

Cut to McFayden, staring.

Cut to Cheryl, staring.

Cheryl: Hoover?

McFayden: I'm sorry, that's incorrect. It was Abraham Lincoln.

Cheryl (at the end, quieter): Oh, D-Day.

I don't watch TV either so I'm a bit naive. Did this really happen?

I swear to it.

I may not have heard all of the conversation, but I clearly heard what I posted. They were asking questions and answering them for points. It's at the end of the show.

When I witnessed that exchange, I started staring.

I was watching UPN because my gf wanted to see some condom commercial that never aired, to my knowledge.

I have a mental block with algebra problems written into the English language.

Give me a word problem. I will give you the equivalent of that answer.

I don't think it would have been quite as choice had she not thought long and hard about it.

I see commercials for that show and think "I really want to see that" but I never watch TV, so it's inevitable that I miss it.

Such is the experience with me, but the only difference is "Man that's so lame."

If my girlfriend didn't want to watch a bunch of UPN to see some controversial condom commercial, then I would never have watched the show.

For me, "Reality TV" is a misnomer.

Most of the stuff on TV that tends its way is Social Game Show. The contestants last an entire season until there is only one, and a prize is awarded to the winner.

Is "The Real World" still on MTV? I haven't watched a stitch of that since that guy slapped the chick with lyme disease in the face on her way off the show in Seattle.

lol, yeah, "The Real World" is still on. And yeah, I remember when Stephen slapped Irene. Bastardo.

The new one is in some obscure city. I completely forget where. It's been good, especially last season. Vegas was the worst season.

Some of the original New York members are getting . . . old.

That was in like 1990 or around that time.

My problem is that there's 25 different shows along the same line as the original, and sometimes the original wasn't that hot.

Right, yeah, I get what you mean, everything that could be done, HAS been done.

It's weird seeing Norman from the first "Real World". Those times were so innocent back then, and so cool, and I was young as hell watching a show that had a GAY person in it and I loved it.

It's just weird how time and trend can warp a show that was THAT incredible when it first premiered and turn it into a drama and bullshit machine.

It reminds me how "The Sopranos" seasons became shorter and farther-spaced, and suddenly, people pretty much consider it a dead show.

Exactly. I sorta' miss "The Sopranos", too. But they killed Adriana, so, fuck it, she was hot.

I HEARD that... What the heck??? That one is REALLY dumb. I'm watching to see how dumb the girls really are, and how lame the guys can get.

They're playing off very large demographics in the wild populuous.

Like all "Reality TV," the producers will feel a need to tailor the product into a working story to pique interest.

Expect plenty of 'blonde' moments and moments of 'geekdom.'

I like it when I get genuine moments. Such an enjoyment remains quite limited in media.
