"He's the angriest gamer you ever heard . . . "

This guy you may or may not have stumbled across in your nets-wandering, but James Rolfe, aka The Angry Video Game Nerd is taking all those old video games that didn't live up to potential . . . and he's flaming them in a cuss-filled set of reviews.

You can find his YouTube profile here. Also MySpace.

He's a bit juvenile for constant swearing . . . some of it grates on me after a while. Also, interpretation of game quality is subjective. samverick and I disagreed with his review of Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest, but the main purpose of these reviews are for entertainment. The Angry Video Game Nerd could probably tear down any game and make it seem like genuine garbage.

I've watched some kids doing similar reviews, and their problem is that they're dead wrong most of the time. Their reasoning for hating the game tends to fall on shitty graphics and limited sound of the game.

Video games weren't born yesterday, children. Some of these younger reviewers, as for their poor quality reviews . . . it's like watching a TV show reviewer going over old shows and tearing them down because they're in black and white. This young generation already suffers for common sense because they've been given the lifelike graphics and surround-sound as a beginning to gaming. Sure, a classic game like Super Mario Bros. can look like crap next to Gears of War.

The Angry Video Game Nerd, however, has the right nitpicks in place for most every review. He's witnessed the near-beginnings of gaming. He recalls the Nintendo vs. Sega Console Wars like it was yesterday. He's been confused by the early game sequel names between Japan-only releases and American re-releases.

Angry Video Game Nerd possesses shrewd observation to warrant the attention. He does the reviews right, with a touch of Tourette's.

He won me over with his review of Friday the 13th for the NES. That game . . . I purchased it, and I always wondered if I was the only one who steamed about having ever played or desired to play the game. He soothed and healed an old wound for me. With flair.

If you know anything about the 1980s, Freddy was the main rival to Jason in the slasher-horror genre. This is the Angry Video Game Nerd's review of Nightmare on Elm Street for the NES.

And then there was the NES Power Glove.

Bless you, you shitty game playing turd-monger!

Your review of his reviews is exactly dead on. I agree with you in entirety about how we lived thru this stuff and can appreciate what a bad game really is. I can ironically remember the same complaints that he has, which really scares me.

I'm looking forward to what he pulls for future reviews. Like, I think Kris Kross and Marky Mark have "Make Me a Video" CD games for the Sega CD. Those would be nice reviews.
