My Ghost in the Machine. [Apr. 15th, 2004|12:30 am]

[In the Moment |clubbed seal]
[Special Music |King Geedorah - Fastlane feat. Biolante]

I finally watched Abre Los Ojos/Open Your Eyes today. This original is wonderful, and the American version, Vanilla Sky, is a good companion piece.

Much of what was written in negatives about Vanilla Sky seemed reactionary to me. Both films possess unique qualities to them, even though the screenplays are essentially the same. After all, the glue for the dual fabric is Penélope Cruz.

Visions of an alternate view.

The recipe for creation of this image:

1) With scanner at the ready, pick a .jpg format

2) Secure hair, and secure saliva. Trust me on the drool.

3) Begin scan. Stare through the scanner. That is, don't follow the light with your eyes.

Warning: Do not do more than a handful of takes. While the light is probably not powerful enough to ruin your corneas, excessive exposure could very well lead to those bright white 'burns' that appear in your vision. In other words, you're not staring at an eclipse or the sun, but don't do this all day. Do it at your own risk. Have fun.

Note: How still you hold yourself while scanning is up to you. The most important time to do this is when you're saving the image. My scanner does an initial scan, but it re-scans when saving to file.

4) After you have a satisfactory .jpg image on file, if you have a photo-imaging or paint program, try playing around with the image.

Note: In this image, I 'foto-shocked' it . . . meaning, I upped the red color output.

**********

Scatter clues for those who equate the style.

What is real? So many people have asked that question so many times over so many years.

I gave up trying to figure it all out in college. I just concentrated on the alcohol and the grades.

Sometimes, the urge to try and figure 'it' all out returns, but then I get a headache, and my subconscious takes control.

If you scared to die, then you scared to live.

I watched Near Dark and Nixon. Yes, I got into the 'Ns' a bit.

Near Dark was hinted at by m_bluenote. Thanks again for that tip . . . Bigelow's commentary mentioned that she got some of her ideas from the older vampire works. It was genius, and I appreciated this take on the undead.

Nixon was another Oliver Stone historical fictional circus. He loves them so. I liked it, as Hopkins went all-out-channel-his-spirit to recreate his feel. Man, nothing is as creepy as the real deal:

He would have used Botox.

Booga-Booga! Oooh, the willies. I wasn't even alive when Nixon was Prez, but I can read books, and the facts don't lie. Marking his grip of power also marks the beginning of the media microscope circus.

Sometimes I don't think it's the fault of the press. They have to push information to get $$, and the general public has had information explosion and attention implosion. There was a film that I just saw that made a point that went something like . . . the more information you get about something, the less sense it makes. It's funny how the mind works against the will.

Anyway, I liked Stone's Nixon, for what it's worth.

I did have a major happy today! Heidi called me and talked to me. That brought me out of utter dejection. It rarely happens for me, but it was really nice to have her say literally anything and have the result of my laughter.

When all is said and done, you can have fun with this link to old horror movie images:

http://www.lixonline.com/retired_designs.htm

Also, if that fails, try ganking an image of a non-hairy face. Use a paint program to draw it a moustache.

Beware the people holding big sticks! It's been that kind of day.

You have to go out and get Carlos one of those nights . . . he's in need of a talking-to and a quiet night out on the town.

Tell him I prescribed it for him, as my Rum and Monkey name is Doctor Juice.

Ah, the A-Team picture. This brings back memories :op

Yay it's 2p.m. I'm ready to go home. It's so freaking dry in here and again I am hacking up a storm. I'm not the only one. There are a few other sickly types in the office so at least I'm not alone.

It's in the 60's today...going to be in the 70's all weekend. It will be like I'm in California. Wheee!!!

Ah, but if you drive to the water's edge, you get a much better view.

I can't promise you that I'll drive to the coast, but if we see Brad, that's always a possibility.

I hope you know that was not meant to be taken seriously. I'm in an odd mood today. I'm getting annoyed with the co-worker that always annoys me. She's being a mega beotch today.

Did you get something special in your email today?

You Know, I Sent Response to Comcast . . .

Chances are, my response will reach your inbox by Sunday.

What is wrong with Comcast's email server? It must be the heavy spam filtering. I swear, they have to have a whole floor of dispatchers, going through every email document by hand.

Yes, I loved it so. Thank you so much for the e-card! It made me smile earlier this morning.

When it first started, I was pretty much struck at the exact similarity.

I think that's what got to folks.

However, I did appreciate the extra effort in special effects in Vanilla Sky . . .

I LOVED "ABRE LOS OJOS"...i was able to find it for $14.99 and i was ecstatic when i did find it! A lot of people put down "Vanilla Sky" but, even though "ABRE..." is better, i still feel "Vanilla Sky" was great! Penelope is GORGEOUS!

She sure is.

It's probably just me, but it seems that she aged a bit between the 1997 Ojos and the 2001 Vanilla Sky.

Am I crazy, or does she look really different in both films?
