How is Jeff Weaver doing well for the Cardinals?

This guy was a well-known monster of a party animal when he played for the Tigers.

Check out the trivia part of his Wikipedia entry.

He was also one of the most frustrating pitchers to watch. He'd have epic meltdowns out there, and it was all scowls and general nonsense, even when he did have a decent game.

He had a 5.76 ERA between the Angels and Cards this year.

Jeff Weaver . . . clearly not a great rendition of Bob Gibson.

Yet . . .

How is Jeff the winning pitcher in Game 5 of the NLCS?

You're no Steve Howe . . . yet.

If you aren't familiar with the USSR ref . . .

Stanislav Petrov . . . basically, with this and the Cuban Missile Crisis, and this is coming from two large populations with experience and scientists to guide the leaders with knowledge of nuclear winters and other awful situations . . .

I am not really concerned, in a "OMG WER GONNA DIEE" way, but I live knowing this is a possible reality I face, especially when it comes to new countries to the nuclear power era.
