Mike Vick's in Company of Others for Telling People They're Number One. [Nov. 28th, 2006|12:56 am]

"HEY, YOU'RE NUMBER ONE! YOU STAY CLASSY, (x)!" isn't the first time or the last time a person inserted their city (Atlanta) for variable x.

How would this compare to a fan chucking a beer on Ron Artest?

Or a similar situation with a fan vs. Dikembe Mutombo?

The only thing better would have been Vick dropping his droors and giving the fans either the ass or the crotch.

You stay classy, Atlanta!

Apology and explanation of what was going on, from Mike Vick, plus a quote lifted from article:

The Falcons (5-6) heard loud boos following their fourth straight loss. Vick said that as he walked off the Georgia Dome field he heard an especially disturbing insult from a male fan.

"He just said certain things I won't say in front of this camera," Vick said at a news conference. "It was very inappropriate. I was down, upset, frustrated. I just did one thing I've never done through all the games I've ever lost, no matter how frustrated I've been after a game. I don't know where it came from, but the people who know me know that's not me and that's not my character."

Vick again apologized.

"I'm sorry and I apologize to all the young kids and to whoever saw me make that gesture," he said. "I just let my emotions get the best of me in that situation and it won't happen again."

To some people, this was a popular examination. This is also starting to draw more stuff from the woodwork, like the recent goings-on of Michael Irvin's comment of Tony Romo having some "slave" in him, plus the Michael Richards incident at the Los Angeles comedy club.

I've now seen a lot of the viewpoints on Irvin and Richards. All this stuff happened within the last few days. The Vick one's my personal favorite because his apparent controversy with the middle finger gesture . . . it's nothing new in the sports world, and I totally forgot about the Billy Martin baseball card.

As for Mike Vick in particular, he just appears to me to be the same guy that came out of Virginia Tech . . . same guy he was at Virginia Tech . . . not a whole hell of a lot has changed or progressed. I ride him because ESPN spent years building up his public persona and appearance of ability to be on par with stars like McNabb, Peyton Manning, McNair, Favre, Brady . . . and he really isn't on that level. The backlash about this guy is building just this year, and he couldn't have picked a more awkward time to flip his fan base the #1. Atlanta re-upped this guy in 2004 to 10 years with a contract more lucrative than Peyton Manning's, and there's something like 37 million in guaranteed $$$ tagged on him. Meaning, if he ever got traded or cut, the owner, Blank, would be responsible for most of the 37 million guaranteed, all applied to next season's cap charge, of which at this point, a sour situation with Vick and the Falcons is a horrible freaking batch of timing. Like, it couldn't be any worse than 2006, Vick alienating his fan base, and having that deal run through like the next decade and then some . . . total insanity in Atlanta right now.

My guess is that if it's him or the coach, like Reeves, coach gotta go, for obvious financial reasons.

Leon Washington likes to flip people off, too.

I actually found a picture of the card on eBay, it really does look like he is flipping someone off. LOL

lol 100 dollars on eBay

That reminds me of that Billy Ripken card where he grabbed the bat with obscenities on it and had his photo taken with that bat, either by mistake or by intent. I wonder how much that card fetches anymore.

I find the ones from the page 2, especially Billy Martin, to be choice.

I loved his managerial style. Anyone not afraid to get into a fist fight with his players is awesome. Too bad Billy was an incorrigible drunk who ended up dying in a rollover accident. Reminds me of Steve Howe.
