Getting to Know: Amir Johnson [Jul. 12th, 2007|11:00 pm]

3 Years, 12 million.

Wait, what? Who? WTF?!?

That's a lot of scratch for somebody who's played 11 games in the NBA.

I'm doubting him. I hope he dashes my doubts with solid play, however.

It's difficult for me to believe Amir was in Westchester High School in Los Angeles in 2005.

Detroit selected him 56th overall in the '05 draft. Since then, he's attended Basketball U, sort of speak. Amir's been going bonkers with tons of points like any promising kid should do in the NBDL since that point. I guess this contract says that Professor Dumars handed him a 4.0 and the head of the Pistons Dean's List. I really don't see how tearing up the D-league translates into guaranteed NBA success, but if he wasn't tearing it up in the minors, then I'd really be pissed about this contract.

For you freaks who think every kid who can dunk is amazing, here's what Amir did in the high school dunk contest. Cue the dramatic music.

In the rare appearances of Amir thus far, he's gone insane in garbage games against pathetic teams like Boston:

During his time spending an inactive roster spot with Detroit, sporting suits and looking smooth, Amir becomes recruited for silly fluff pieces by A-list players, like this:

I guess we'll find out by the All-Star Weekend if this kid's got any kind of game outside of the fluff and frosting.

The only entity that hands out more free, undeserved money than the NBA is the US Government.

NBA is sick. It needs an inoculation.

My reaction when I read about Amir's contact was the same as yours.

It's times like this I wish I could read Dumars' mind.
