On August 16th, 1960, Captain Joseph Kittinger made the highest parachute jump (102,800 feet), sustained the longest drogue fall (4 minutes) and achieved the fastest speed by a human through the atmosphere (614 mph). He did this on the 3rd balloon jump as part of Project Excelsior.
